Davis Publications Inc. is an outgrowth of a partnership formed between the Robert & Carol Wilson and Clarke & Marveta Davis families. Robert and Clarke had been employed together at weekly newspapers in Gove, Logan, and Wallace counties.

Together they purchased The Vindicator Jan. 1, 1968, and The Independent Oct. 1, 1968. Within a few years, the partnership was incorporated and the families celebrated their 25th anniversary Jan. 1, 1993. On this same date the Davises purchased the Wilsons' stock in the company and their son, Corey, joined the publishing firm.

Davis Publications employs 10 full- and part-time people in producing the newspapers and operating its printing plant.

The Vindicator and The Independent are both weekly papers covering news in Jefferson County. They are normally printed on Tuesday evening and mailed on Wednesday. The regular deadline for both papers is Monday at 4:30 p.m.
